Period Poverty

Period Poverty

You do not have to go without.

OK, yes, embarrassing topic alert! But why?

Having a period is a natural bodily function, and if you find yourself at that time of the month and without sanitary products, please don’t worry and please don’t be embarrassed.

Across our campuses, we have been increasing the number of baskets available with FREE sanitary products in our toilet facilities. If these are empty you can also request free sanitary products from any of the Student Services staff on your campus.

You can also collect free contraception from Student Services on your campus.

Volunteer for our Campaign Team

Over the past couple of years, your Deeside Student Vice-President Ellie Kidd has been campaigning to raise awareness of period poverty and has been working closely with Student Services on keeping the baskets topped up with free sanitary products.

Each year Ellie is looking for a team of volunteers to help her and the other Student Vice-Presidents on each of the campuses to keep these baskets topped up.

You do not only have to identify as female to be able to join Ellie’s volunteer teams, all are welcome. As the team of volunteers grow, so do the number of locations that can be topped up and so does how often they get topped up. Some of our sites have gender-neutral toilet facilities that need to be topped up, as well as our disabled toilet facilities.

If you are interested in volunteering, please see the details in the poster below and get in touch – please note, these are the posters that we use above some of the baskets across the campuses, which is why the wording refers to the baskets.
